PTI leader Dr Iftikhar Durrani arrested

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaaf (PTI) leader Dr Iftikhar Durrani has been arrested from his residence on Thursday.

According to the sources, Durrani has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the May 9 violence.

According to the local media, the PTI leader has been shifted to some undisclosed location after arrest.

May 9 ‘conspiracy against Pakistan within Pakistan’ : PM Shehbaz

Earlier in July, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the individuals accused in connection with the May 9 attacks would face trial in military courts, said that it was “a conspiracy against Pakistan within Pakistan”.

During an interview with Saama News, the PM asserted that the government and institutions had resolved to pursue the constitutional and legal route to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He drew a parallel between the May 9 riots and the February 2019 Indian attack, describing them as “a conspiracy against Pakistan within Pakistan”. He emphasised that there would be “no concession” and severe punishment would be meted out.

As the coalition government nears its completion, the PM reflected on his 14-month term and expressed his focus on “saving the country” from what he deemed as “the destructive politics” of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
