ISLAMABAD: Accountability Court Rawalpindi on Friday ordered the immediate release of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) leaders Omar Ayub and Raja Basharat.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub and former law minister Raja Basharat were arrested from outside Adiala Jail on Thursday.
They had visited the prison to appear before the court in a case related to May 9 events.
“Omar Ayub was arrested from outside the jail premises despite a court order against his arrest”, Barbar Awan counsel for Ayub told the court.
Pindi police officer gets contempt notice for not producing arrested PTI leaders
Accountability Court judge Amjad Ali Shah expressed his anger at the Punjab police for arresting the two PTI leaders despite that they had obtained bail before arrest from the Peshawar High Court.
The court issued a contempt of court notice against the Punjab police and ordered the release of the two PTI leaders.
Meanwhile, PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that a contempt petition would be filed in the Peshawar High Court against the “illegal arrest” of Omar Ayub.
