PESHAWAR: In preparation for the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest at D-Chowk Islamabad, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur has allocated Rs400,000 to each provincial assembly member.
The funds are intended to cover petrol and vehicle expenses for transporting supporters to the protest site in Islamabad.
During a high-level meeting in Peshawar, Gandapur emphasized the importance of PTI’s presence at D-Chowk. He tasked each assembly member with mobilizing 500 supporters, expressing dissatisfaction with previous turnouts, where some members brought as few as 50 or 100 individuals.
He has reportedly decided to monitor the movements of assembly members through hidden cameras at motorway interchanges to ensure compliance with the mobilization targets.
Barrister Saif, the KP Information Adviser, confirmed on Thursday that PTI workers from KP, led by Gandapur, would reach Islamabad on October 4, regardless of government attempts to hinder them.
PTI protest: Islamabad to be completely sealed on Friday
He criticized the federal government’s strategy of placing containers in the capital, stating that such measures would fail to stop PTI workers. He also reminded the public that Gandapur had previously helped free PTI workers from police custody.
Saif warned the government against using excessive police force and reiterated the determination of PTI supporters to protest in favor of the party’s agenda. PTI workers from across KP are expected to join the protest, with a convoy set to depart on the specified date.
This development comes amid rising political tensions as PTI gears up for what is expected to be a large-scale demonstration in the capital.
The government’s use of containers and heavy security in Islamabad has drawn criticism from PTI, who argue that the measures are aimed at suppressing their constitutional right to peaceful protest.
