PTI protest march: Court proceedings in twin cities suspended

court proceedings suspended

ISLAMABAD: Court proceedings in Islamabad and Rawalpindi were adjourned without hearings on Monday due to widespread road closures and heightened security measures amid PTI’s protest march towards Islamabad.

Due to the deployment of heavy police presence at various places in Islamabad, the jail authorities were unable to transport accused individuals from Adiala Jail to the courts in the twin cities.

As a result, hearings in both civil and session courts were postponed without any progress.

According to the President of the High Court Bar, no legal action will be taken against absentees due to the roadblocks.

Islamabad roads deserted amid PTI protest convoy movement

A formal application has been submitted in the High Court and District Court, citing that litigants are unable to reach the courts due to the disrupted routes.

The courts have begun assigning new dates for all cases, as court proceedings remain suspended. Jail authorities have also confirmed that no accused individuals will be presented in court until the situation improves.

The ongoing road closures have created significant delays in legal matters, further inconveniencing lawyers, litigants, and the judicial process.

Life for residents of the capital city has come to a standstill due to heightened security measures ahead of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest convoy making it way into Islamabad.

Several routes connecting Rawalpindi to Islamabad continue to face disruptions due to roadblocks.

Mobile phone and internet services were also shut down, adding to the woes of residents.

Authorities deployed heavy contingents of police and Rangers to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents.
