PTI rejects secretary-general Omar Ayub’s resignation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has rejected Omar Ayub’s resignation as Secretary General following a decision by the party’s Core Committee on Saturday.
Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar issued a notification directing Ayub to continue in his role. The decision was cited as helping maintain the party’s organisational stability.

According to reports, Barrister Gohar acted upon instructions from PTI founder Imran Khan himself. The notification issued hints at Khan’s concern of maintaining internal cohesion in light of high-profile instances of internal discord.
Omar Ayub tendered his resignation recently. It was met with a strong response from the PTI’s Core Committee, which expressed confidence in his capabilities and leadership.
In his directive, Imran Khan declared his confidence in Omar Ayub’s ability to continue effectively fulfilling the duties of Secretary General and rejected his resignation.
Omar Ayub is currently serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. He is the grandson of former president Field Marshal Ayub Khan. He has held different ministerial positions over a decades-long political career.
His joined politics in 2002 when he was elected as a member of the National Assembly from constituency NA-19 in Haripur under the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).

He later joined Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and subsequently moved to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2018.
In recent years, Ayub has been a key figure in PTI. He played a critical role in party organisation and leadership. He led PTI’s efforts against alleged electoral irregularities in the 2024 elections.
