PTI

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s legal team received record of the cipher case filed against the party chairman and the former prime minister.

PTI’s lawyer Khaled Yusuf received the record of the case. The record includes details of the PTI chairman’s remand and the case against him.

PTI’s lawyers had approached the court today for receiving the cipher case record.

The cipher case against the PTI chairman is a case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) under the Official Secrets Act 1923.

The cipher case alleges that the PTI chairman, misplaced and misused a classified document sent to Pakistan by a former diplomat posted in the US that allegedly contained a threat to oust him from power.

The PTI chairman had waved the document at a public gathering in March 2022, claiming it was evidence of an international conspiracy against his government. However, he later admitted that he had lost the document and could not recall where he kept it.

Plea against transferring cipher case to Attock Jail, IHC seeks response

The FIA arrested him in August 2023, while he was already in jail for another case, and obtained his judicial remand till September 13.

The PTI chairman has challenged the legality of the case and the notification of the Law Ministry to hold his trial in Attock jail.

He has also applied for bail in the case. The PTI has accused the government of political victimisation and violating his right to a fair trial.
