ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a public holiday for May 28 (Wednesday) in connection with Youm-e-Takbeer.
A notification to this effect has been issued.
Last year Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif had officially declared May 28th, Youm-e-Takbeer, a public holiday in recognition of Pakistan’s unyielding defence capabilities.
The Sindh government yesyerday had announced that May 28 will be a public holiday to mark Youm-e-Takbeer, commemorating Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998.
All government and private institutions in the southern province will be closed, with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) also suspending trading for the day.
On May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in the Chaghi hills of Balochistan.
The test positioned Pakistan as the seventh nuclear-armed state globally and were a response to regional security dynamics, particularly following India’s nuclear tests in 1974.
