Public holiday in Sindh tomorrow

KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced a public holiday tomorrow (Tuesday) to observe the Urs of revered Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

The chief secretary has already notified that there will be a public holiday across the province on Tuesday, August 20th, in honour of the great saint and Sufi poet Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

According to the notification, all government and semi-government offices, schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on August 20th .

However, employees of essential services will continue to perform their duties.

The urs commences annually on the 14th of Safar and spans three days. According to reports, the three-day event will kick off with poetry marathons, literary conferences, and various other activities.

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai ( 1689 to 1752) was a great Sufi poet and saint. He is widely considered to be the greatest poet of Sindhi language. His collected poems were compiled in “Shah Jo Risalo”, which exists in numerous versions and has been translated into English, Urdu, and several other languages.
