Punjab gov’t boosts security for foreigners with bulletproof vehicles

LAHORE: The Punjab government acquired three bulletproof coasters and three high-roof vans for the protection of important foreign dignitaries and Chinese nationals working on several projects within the country.
The move comes in the wake of several deadly terrorist attacks, particularly, against Chinese nationals.

In response to growing terrorist attacks in the country, the Home Department, Punjab recommended acquiring bulletproof vehicles to improve security and ensure the safety of foreign nationals.
The provincial government has plans to acquire more vehicles in coming months,
Recently, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong remarked on the glaring security issues in Pakistan. The Chinese ambassador called the recent attacks on Chinese nationals within Pakistan as “unacceptable”.
A suicide bombing near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport killed two Chinese citizens, while injuring 17.
Similarly, in March, a terrorist attack in Bisham, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa resulted in the deaths of five Chinese workers involved in the Dasu Hydropower Project.

Reports into the incidents revealed huge lapses in security protocols, including inadequate communication and the failure of officials to secure approvals for inter-city travel.
The vehicle used in the Bisham attack was not bomb-proof, either.
