Punjab launches women police squad for Eid shoppers

LAHORE: To curb harassment and criminal activities, the Punjab government has launched a Women Police Squad, which has started patrolling markets and commercial areas across the province.
The squad consists of foot, bicycle, and motorcycle patrol teams that will monitor streets and marketplaces to prevent harassment incidents.
The initiative, launched under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to enhance security and safeguard women shoppers in busy commercial areas and marketplaces across the province.
Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has vowed to ensure the safety of women in public spaces, declaring that protecting women and children is the responsibility of the entire society.
Pakistan Railways to run three ‘Eid special’ trains
According to officials, the special squad is now operational in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Chiniot. Patrolling has also begun in major business hubs of Burewala, Vehari, Khanewal, and other cities.
In Lahore, the Dolphin Force has deployed a special squad to protect women and children. Additionally, a Quick Response Cycle Squad has been stationed at 65 major commercial centres to provide immediate assistance in case of any emergency.
Officials say the initiative aims to create a safer environment for women in public places and curb street crime.
