Punjab police bolsters arsenal to combat Katcha dacoits

LAHORE: Punjab Police are purchasing modern equipment to strengthen their fighting capabilities against the dacoits of Katcha area.

The purchase process of over 50 modern telecommunication equipment has entered the final stages, Punjab Police spokesperson said on Sunday. Procurement of 25 more bulletproof vehicles for the counter-terrorism department (CTD) and Border Area Police has also begun, the spokesperson added.

The police are also purchasing 26 modern thermal surveillance solutions and thermal rifles scopes to increase their combat capabilities. More than 60 drones are also being purchased for aerial surveillance, Punjab Police spokesperson added.

SINDH POLICE ACTIVE AGAINST KATCHA BANDITS

Earlier, in December, a high-level meeting was held under the Sindh Chief Secretary to review the law and order situation in the Katcha area. Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, Sukkur Commissioner and DIG, and Larkana Commissioner and DIG also attended the meeting. The participants discussed the ongoing police operations in the region and their outcomes in detail.

IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon briefed the meeting on the significant successes achieved in the Katcha area since the beginning of this year. He reported that during the operations, 76 dacoits were killed, 115 injured, and 363 arrested. As a result of these actions, several areas have been cleared of criminal elements, leading to remarkable progress in restoring peace and security.

The chief secretary directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to adopt a coordinated strategy to sustain these achievements. The meeting also stressed the need for close cooperation between the police and district administration.
