GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan police on Wednesday arrested two men from Gilgit for allegedly raping a teenage boy in Skardu and threatening him with dire consequences.
The victim, a 16-year-old hotel worker from Hassan Colony, Skardu, filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police, stating that he was on his way to work on January 28, 2025, when the suspects intercepted him near Bhuttu Bazaar at 12:30pm. They forcefully took him to a nearby house and subjected him to rape one by one and threatened him of serious consequences if he reported the incident.
Skardu police spokesperson Ghulam Muhammad Shuja told HUM News English that the suspects were on the run after committing the alleged crime.
He said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday by a Skardu police team, with cooperation from the Gilgit police. The police team, led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Wazir Mubarak Ali, Wazir Muhammad Iqbal, and Akhund Muhammad Jafar, received commendation for their swift action.
Senior Superintendent of Police Skardu Kacho Nasir Abbas praised their efforts and expressed gratitude to the Gilgit police for their support in bringing the suspects to justice.
Meanwhile, in a similar case, a victim’s family is allegedly being pressured for a compromise.
A teenage boy was allegedly gang-raped by four men within the jurisdiction of Hussainabad Police Station in Skardu earlier this week.
The 18-year-old boy approached Hussainabad Police Station with a complaint that he was subjected to gang rape after being abducted in a vehicle by four men near his residence in Hussainabad. Police registered an FIR and arrested all four suspects nominated by the victim in his complaint.
Shuja acknowledged that there was information that both parties were involved in a dialogue for compromise. However, he said it was up to the court to approve any compromise in the case.
