Rain claims at least eight lives in Lahore

LAHORE: At least right people were killed on Saturday when rain lashed Lahore, causing damage to infrastructure in several areas.
The death toll includes, a 17-year-old boy who drowned in rainwater under the Do Moria and 12-year-old boy drowned near Thokar Niaz Baig.
Heavy rain continued in different areas of Lahore throughout the day, including Abbot Road, Davis Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Mall Road, Shimla Pahari, Data Darbar, Gulshan Ravi, Johar Town, Gulberg, Samanabad, Baghbanpura, Garhi Shahu and Burki.
Electricity supply on Saturday remained suspended in many areas of the provincial capital.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafia Haider has issued a notification restricting citizens from swimming in the Ravi River and canals, as well as “playing” on their banks, for a week.
“Heavy rain spell[s] this season may cause unfortunate incidents of drowning and loss of precious human lives,” read the notification.
