Inam Minhas, Azam Khan appointed as IHC additional judges 


IHC gets two additional judges

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law, with the approval of President Aisf Ali Zardari issued a notification on Saturday for the appointment of Raja Inam Ameen Minhas and Azam Khan as additional judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) for a term of one year. 

The appointments were finalized during a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) held on Friday. The Commission, by majority vote, nominated District and Session Judge Mohammad Azam Khan, and Advocate Supreme Court Raja Inam Ameen Minhas for these positions. 

According to a CJP statement, there were four positions of additional judges vacant in the IHC, against which the commission nominated the two from a list of 21 candidates.

The newly-appointed additional judge Raja Inam Ameen Minhas was the nominees of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC). The bar has also nominated Usman Ghani, and Rashid Cheema.

Similarly, District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Azam Khan was nominated by chief justice of IHC. His other nominees were district and sessions judges Raja Jawad Abbas Hassan, and Shahrukh Arjumand.

Raja Inam Ameen Minhas has also served as persecutor general of the Anti-narcotics Force (ANF). He was also elected president of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) in 2019.

In a separate JCP meeting on the same day, nominations for Additional Judges in the Balochistan High Court were considered. Advocates of Supreme Court Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Ayub Khan, and Najam-ud-Din Mengal were nominated for appointment, with two securing unanimous approval. 

In both meetings, the CJP had unanimously decided that nominees who did not secure the required majority of the total membership of the commission for finalization of their nominations this time may be renominated for future vacancies.

This process has been defined under Clause 6 of the Procedure of Nominations: “A nominee must secure the votes of a majority of the total membership of the commission to be selected for nomination by the commission.”
