ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has restored the Election Commission’s decision in a ruling concerning three National Assembly constituencies.
PTI challenges Election Amendment Act in Supreme Court
The verdict, delivered by a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, was passed with a 2-1 majority, overturning the earlier decision by the Lahore High Court (LHC). CJ Faez Isa and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan were the majority vote, while Justice Aqeel Abbasi was the dissenting vote.
The LHC had agreed to the demands of the opposition parties Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and ordered a recount.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Abdul Rahman Kanju, Azhar Qayyum Nehra, and Zulfiqar Ahmed challenged this decision in the Supreme Court. The LHC’s annulment in NA 154, NA 81, and NA 79, where recounts had altered the initial results, was central to this challenge.

In NA 154, Abdul Rahman Kanju’s victory over Rana Faraz Noon was confirmed by the Supreme Court. Similarly, Azhar Qayyum Nehra and Zulfiqar Ahmed, who were initially defeated in recounts by Rana Bilal Ejaz and Ehsanullah respectively, were declared successful.
