SC allows girl to reside with husband

Supreme Court

Islamabad: – In a recent development, the Supreme Court (SC) has granted permission for an 18-year-old girl to reside with her husband.

The decision was reached during a hearing led by a two-member bench presided over by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial on Thursday.

The case revolved around Farzana Bibi, who had been the subject of alleged abduction and subsequent marriage.

The investigation officer of the case presented a medical report confirming Farzana Bibi’s age to be approximately 18 years.

Chief Justice Bandial inquired about Farzana Bibi’s current residence, to which she responded that she was presently living with her parents but expressed her desire to live with her husband.

Acknowledging the unfortunate nature of the circumstances, the Chief Justice remarked that the couple was now married, and any adverse ruling against the husband could detrimentally impact their lives.

Justice Athar Minallah questioned the rationale behind the girl’s parents continuing to pursue the case, given their daughter’s clear intent to be with her husband.

The Court emphasized that allowing the young couple to reunite was in line with their wishes.

In a subsequent decision, the Supreme Court bench not only permitted Farzana Bibi to reside with her husband but also ruled in favor of granting custody of her two newborn children to their father.
