Schools, colleges to remain closed in Islamabad tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The local administration has decided to close down all government and private educational institutions in the federal capital on Monday (tomorrow) in view of the current security situation arising from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest.
A notification regarding the closure of the educational institutions will be issued by the Islamabad district administration in a while, the Islamabad deputy commissioner said in a tweet.
On the other hand, the Private Schools Association Islamabad has also decided to close schools in the capital tomorrow (Monday).
Private Schools Association General Secretary Abdul Waheed said that the current situation leaves them with no option but to close schools as they could not put children at risk.
All private schools in Islamabad will remain closed on Monday given the current law and order situation, he said.
Meanwhile, the COMSATS has announced through a notification that all undergraduate and graduate degree programmes scheduled classes will be conducted online on November 25 (Monday).
Meanwhile, security has been hightened across Islamabad as convoys of PTI supporters advanced toward the capital for the planned protest.
Former prime minister Imran Khan, who has been a vocal critic of the current government, earlier issued a “final call” for nationwide protest on November 24, denouncing what he called a stolen mandate, unjust arrests, and the recent passage of the 26th constitutional amendment, which he said consolidates a “dictatorial regime.”
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court declared the PTI’s planned protest illegal, instructing the federal government to take all necessary steps to maintain order while avoiding disruption to public life.
Speaking to the media at D-Chowk, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that they will not allow anyone to reach D-Chown and every efforst would be made to contain the PTI caravans outside the federal capital.
The federal government has deployed securtity personnnel in Islamabad to manage the tense standoff with PTI.
