Serena Interchange underpass opens for traffic

Serena Interchange underpass

ISLAMABAD: The Serena Interchange underpass has been opened for traffic following the completion of construction work.

Chairman CDA Muhammad Ali Randhawa visited the Serena Interchange underpass and expressed satisfaction over the progress of development projects.

He stated that the completion of the underpass is a significant milestone and will resolve long-standing traffic issues in the area.

Additionally, construction work on two underpasses on Srinagar Highway has also been finalised, with one on Suhrawardy Road now open to traffic.

Chairman CDA further mentioned that work on other parts of the project is progressing rapidly to ensure timely completion.

The development aims to streamline traffic flow and improve connectivity in the capital.

According to CDA officials, the two under-construction underpasses near the Islamabad Club are expected to be completed by January 20, and efforts are underway to ensure the entire project is completed by the end of this month.

The foundation stone for the two major interchanges, with a total cost of Rs8 billion, was laid by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on November 5.

The CDA has also decided to build an underpass on Murree Road to provide motorists from Murree a direct route to Srinagar Highway.

Currently, the civic agency is working on two underpasses on Srinagar Highway as part of the Serena Interchange project.

However, one of these underpasses would be ineffective, as vehicles from Murree lack direct access to Srinagar Highway.

Residents of Murree and nearby areas have long urged the CDA to construct an additional underpass on Murree Road to ensure smooth entry onto Srinagar Highway.

At present, motorists must travel to the Dhokri roundabout to access Srinagar Highway, often encountering traffic congestion at the junction.

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa recently instructed the project consultant to address this issue. The consultant has now proposed the construction of an underpass on Murree Road to resolve the problem.
