Severe Punjab Smog: AQI reaches hazardous level in Multan

LAHORE: The intensity of smog across Punjab has reached alarming levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Multan soaring to 1682, indicating severe pollution.

Lahore’s AQI was recorded at 751, while Peshawar, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi reported levels of 312, 207, and 199, respectively.

In Lahore, Gulberg emerged as the most polluted area with an AQI of 1087.

Multiple neighborhoods across the city reported AQI levels exceeding 1000, underscoring the worsening air quality.

On Canal Road, the AQI measured 947, and DHA recorded 892, both signaling hazardous conditions.

The thick blanket of smog in Punjab has heightened health risks, prompting authorities to advise residents to minimize outdoor exposure and take necessary precautions. Schools have also been closed in three divisions of Punjab.

MOTORWAYS CLOSED

The Motorway Police have announced the closure of several major motorways across Punjab due to dense fog and smog, affecting visibility and road safety.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the M-2 motorway from Lahore to Khanqah Dogran has been shut down. Additionally, the M-3 motorway, spanning from Lahore to Darkhana, is also closed due to severe weather conditions.

Similarly, the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway is inaccessible, confirmed Syed Imran Ahmed, spokesperson for the Motorway Police. Furthermore, the M-4 section from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem has been suspended until visibility improves.

Authorities have advised travelers to exercise caution and stay updated on motorway conditions.
