Shahdara accident: Underage driver sent on 4-day physical remand

LAHORE: An underage driver involved in running over three motorcyclists in Shahdra, has been handed over to police on a four-day physical remand.

Hashir Umar, the 11-year-old boy was presented before the judicial magistrate at the district courts on Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses, the 11 year old child lost control of the car and hit the riders. One motorcyclist died on the spot, while two others were seriously injured and shifted to the hospital for treatment.

Police requested physical remand of the suspect, but his lawyer opposed the request, arguing that the suspect is a minor and cannot be placed under physical remand.

However, the investigating officer informed the court that age verification tests and a mental health evaluation need to be conducted and requested custody for that purpose.

After hearing both sides, the court granted a four-day physical remand and handed the suspect over to police while adjourning the hearing.
