RAWALPINDI: A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi will ponder over the rejection of nomination papers of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sheikh Rashid Shafiq.

The two-member bench, comprising Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz and Justice Mirza Waqas Rauf, will decide whether the appeal should be accepted.

Both aspiring candidates plan to approach the Election Tribunal of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today to challenge the objections raised against their candidacy.

Morning chaos as thick fog continues to grip Islamabad

Representatives of Sheikh Rasheed and Rashid Shafiq, namely Sardar Abdul Raziq and Sardar Shehbaz, are scheduled to appear before the two-member Bench of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi.

The objections primarily revolve around incomplete details of assets provided by both the candidates. It has been highlighted that Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed owes the government a sum of Rs 322,000, which raises concerns over his financial transparency.

The lack of comprehensive information regarding Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s income sources from the years 2021 to 2023 has also been flagged as a significant objection.

On the other hand, Rashid Shafiq has come under scrutiny for failing to furnish his wife’s tax return details.
