Sindh Assembly passes law to promote breastfeeding


The Sindh Assembly on Thursday approved the Protection and Promotion of Breastfeeding and Young Children Nutrition Act. According to Parliamentary Secretary Health, Qasim Sumro, the Breastfeeding law aims to ensure adequate nutrition for children and protect them from diseases.

Qasim Sumro further said that in Sindh, formula milk will only be sold based on a doctor’s prescription. As per the new law, formula milk will only be available at pharmacies and designated stores.

As per the new law, representatives of formula milk companies will not be allowed in hospitals, nor will they be part of the Infant Feeding Board.

According to Qasim Sumro, marketing alternative products to mother’s milk for children up to 3 years old will not be permitted.
