Speeding crackdown: Motorway police issue over 9,000 fines


LAHORE: The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) issued over 9,000 fines for speeding during a special campaign conducted from May 4 to May 13.

The motorway police recently decided to enforce speed limits on vehicles passing through motorway from Lahore to Sadiqabad. The initiative was led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shahid Javed.

Throughout the enforcement period, the motorway police issued fines for speeding to over 5,000 larger vehicles. Meanwhile, 4,000 smaller vehicles for exceeding the set speed limits.

According to reports, the officers of the NHMP provided “comprehensive briefings” to over 50,000 drivers.

The DIG stated that the primary objective of the current initiative was to curb accidents by discouraging “reckless driving”. The law enforcer said that the motorway police will “unequivocally” exercise zero tolerance towards offenders.

The DIG said that the overall aim of the initiative is to uphold the safety and welfare of all commuters. He said the citizens needed to be responsible drivers and minimise the likelihood of road accidents.

The motorway police confirmed their “unwavering commitment” to the “preservation of road safety” and facilitating safe journeys for all commuters.
