Stormy skies ahead: widespread rain predicted for Sunday

WEB DESK: Strong and gusty winds, and thundershowers are expected in several regions of Pakistan on Sunday, including Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Pothohar, Islamabad, Northeast and South Balochistan, Southeast and Upper Sindh, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall.
Going region by region, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that in Islamabad and surrounding areas, strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rain are likely to occur.

In Punjab, regions such as Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Mianwali, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Bhakkar, Layyah, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are expected to face strong winds, thunder, and heavy rain.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Balakot, Buner, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand, Mohmand, Khyber, Bajaur, Peshawar, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, Tank, DI Khan, Waziristan, and Orakzai could experience rain accompanied by strong winds and thundershowers, with heavy rain expected in a few areas.
In Sindh, most districts will remain partly cloudy and hazy, but there is a chance of rain with strong winds and thundershowers in Mithi, Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Jacobabad, Larkana, Khairpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, and Ghotki. Coastal areas may see light rain along with cloudy conditions.
In Balochistan, most districts will experience hot and humid weather, but strong winds and thundershowers are expected in Qalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Musakhail, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sibi, Awaran, and Lasbela in the evening or night.
Kashmir is likely to see rain with strong winds and thunder, with heavy rainfall possible in some areas. In Gilgit-Baltistan, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy with the possibility of thunder and rain in a few places.

Additionally, PMD warns that due to heavy rains on August 11 (Sunday), several regions, including Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Hafizabad, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, and Kashmir, are at risk of flooding, particularly in local rivers and low-lying areas. There is also a risk of landslides in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Murree and Galiyat.
