Strong earthquake tremors felt in Islamabad, surrounding areas

ISLAMABAD: Strong earthquake tremors were felt in Islamabad and surrounding areas late on Saturday night.

The earthquake jolts sent people rushing out of their homes. The earthquake rattled windows and swayed chandeliers.

Tremors were also felt in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Murree, Rawalpindi and surrounding areas.

According to the seismological centre, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, with a depth of 17 kilometres. Its epicentre was located 8 kilometers from Rawalpindi.

So far, no reports of casualties or property damage had been received, and all emergency response agencies remain on alert.

People checked their phones for updates, calling loved ones to ensure their safety. Emergency teams were put on alert.

On December 5, 2024, earthquake tremors of magnitude 5.1 were felt in various parts of Punjab.

The tremors had caused panic sending people out of their offices and houses.

Tremors were felt in Lahore, Jhelum, Nankana Sahib, Gujrat, Patuki, Dina, Sialkot and Sargodha.
