Sunday weather update: rain, winds, and thunder expected

WEB DESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts that there is a chance of rain with strong winds and thunder across the country. Similar weather predictions are made for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Northeast Balochistan on Sunday. Heavy rain is also expected at a few places in East Punjab and South Punjab along with Northeast Balochistan.

Going region by region, PMD says that Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to be partly cloudy with strong winds and thundershowers. Heavy rain is also expected at some places during this time.

In Punjab, thunderstorms are expected at a few places in Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sialkot, Lahore, Layyah, Bhakkar, Taunsa, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Okara, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balakot, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Tank, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan will experience rain with strong winds and thunder. Heavy rain is also expected at a few places in the upper areas.

In most districts of Sindh, the weather will remain warm and partly cloudy, except Qambar, Shahdadkot, Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Dadu, Kashmore and coastal areas, which will have strong winds and chances of rain.

Likewise, in Balochistan, the weather will remain hot and humid in most of the districts of the province. However, there is a possibility of rain with strong winds and thundershowers in Zhob, Barkhan, Kohlu, Sherani, Musa Khel, Loralai, Khuzdar, Awaran, Lasbela and surrounding areas. Heavy rain is also expected at some places during this time.

For Kashmir, PMD predicts a chance of rain with strong winds and thundershowers at a few places. There is also a possibility of rain with strong winds and thundershowers in Gilgit-Baltistan.

PMD also issued a warning for tonight and tomorrow, saying that due to torrential rain, there is a risk of flooding in the mountain streams of Kashmir, Northeast Balochistan and Dera Ghazi Khan. There is also a risk of urban flooding in Pothohar, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal, and Faisalabad region. Due to heavy rains, there is a risk of landslides in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Tourists and travelers are thereby advised to take necessary precautions.
