Supreme Court

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the basic salary of Supreme Court judges by 20 per cent.

Acting President and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani signed the Judge Salary Order 2023, which increases the salary of the chief justice to Rs12, 29189 per month. In 2022, the chief justice’s salary was Rs10, 24324.

The basic salary of Supreme Court judges will now be Rs11, 61163 per month. Previously, their basic salary Rs9, 67636.

The federal government has also approved the Supreme Court budget of Rs3 billion.

Last month, Sanjrani faced intense criticism when the Senate sought to adopt a controversial bill that enhanced the privileges of past and future heads of the upper house of the parliament, including the increase in salaries, travel allowances and lifetime security.

Currently, the proposed law awaits consideration by the National Assembly. Sanjrani claimed that it would not add any further burden to the national exchequer.
