Three militants killed in CTD operation in Swat

WEB DESK: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Swat claimed a major breakthrough after three wanted militants, including a key suspect in the killing of Village Defence Council members, were killed in an intelligence-based operation in Barikot.

According to police, one of the deceased, Ajmal alias Waqas, carried a bounty of PKR two-million on his head and was wanted in nine terror cases. He was believed to be involved in several attacks on security forces and the targeted killing of police personnel.

Malakand Division Police Officer Sher Akbar Khan said Ajmal’s killing was a significant blow to militant networks operating in the region. “We are committed to eradicating the menace of violent extremism and the Khawarij ideology from its roots,” he added.

Police said the other two slain militants, Matiullah and Arifullah, were Afghan nationals.

IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed said counter-terrorism operations would be further intensified to restore lasting peace in the province.

Earlier in July, Pakistan’s security forces killed 30 Indian-sponsored foreign militants in a series of operations in North Waziristan, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The ISPR said weapons and explosives were also recovered from the slain militants during the operation. A major infiltration attempt from Afghanistan was foiled in the Hasan Khel area of North Waziristan.
