Traffic police intensifies crackdown on underage drivers

LAHORE: In the wake of a recent tragic incident in Defence, Lahore, the traffic police have launched a robust initiative to clamp down on underage driving.

A total of 190 checkpoints have been strategically established throughout the city, with the primary objective of enforcing regulations that prohibit individuals below the age of 18 from operating vehicles.

Emphasizing the severity of the matter, authorities are taking actions against the parents of underage drivers to ensure accountability.

The impetus behind this crackdown stems from a distressing traffic accident in Lahore’s Defence Phase 7, where a collision resulted in the loss of six lives from a single family, including two children. The victims identified by rescue officials include 45-year-old Rukhsana, 4-year-old Anabia, 4-month-old Hazeefa, 27-year-old Muhammad Hussain, 30-year-old Sajjad, and 23-year-old Aisha.

Following the incident, law enforcement swiftly took the underage driver, identified as Ifnan Shafqat, into custody and initiated legal proceedings against him.

In response to this tragic event, the Lahore police have heightened their efforts to curb underage driving, implementing stringent measures at various checkpoints across the city to ensure the safety of both young drivers and the general public.”
