Tribute paid to Kargil war hero Capt Karnal Sher Khan

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Armed Forces observed the 24th martyrdom anniversary of Kargil war hero Captain Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed on Wednesday.
Captain Sher Khan, who was awarded Nishan-e-Haider posthumously, lost his life on July 5 during the 1999 Kargil war before he was martyred while defending his strategic post at the height of 17,000 feet in the Gultari region.
Peshawer Commander Corps Lt-Gen Sardar Hassan Azhar Hayat, along with the Inspector General Frontier Corps (North) Major-Gen Noor Wali Khan, laid a floral wreath at Captain Sher Khan’s mausoleum in his native town Swabi.
The Inter-Services Public Relations issued a statement calling it “a powerful reminder of the extraordinary sacrifices made by the Armed Forces of Pakistan”.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the desecration of Capt Sher Khan’s memorial which took place during the May 9 riots. Several other memorials were also targeted at the time.
“The nation will always honour those who sacrificed their lives for the cause of the country,” the premier said.
