ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission has reiterated the necessity for voters to present a valid ID card when casting their ballots. In a recent announcement, the commission clarified that neither ID card copies nor soft copies would be accepted for voting purposes.

Addressing potential concerns, the commission stated that voting could still proceed with expired ID cards. However, it emphasised that passports, bay forms, or driving licenses would not suffice as valid identification for voting.

Upon arrival at the polling station, voters are required to present their original identity cards to the Presiding Officer. Subsequently, the polling officer will mark the voter’s right thumb with indelible ink, as per commission regulations.

Additionally, the presiding officer will affix the thumb impression in front of the voter’s photograph and strike the voter’s name from the voter list. Assistant Presiding Officers will then issue the appropriate ballot papers for the National and Provincial Assemblies.

Notably, green ballot papers will be allocated for the National Assembly, while white ones will be designated for the Provincial Assembly, as specified by the Election Commission. Voters are instructed to stamp their choices on the ballot papers behind the voting screen, ensuring the ink is dry before folding.
