WAPDA workers protest against potential elimination of electricity quota

GUJRANWALA: Employees of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) have come out in protest to express their apprehensions regarding the potential revocation of electricity units’ quota currently allocated to WAPDA staff members.

Protestors have established a protest camp outside the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) office.

Sporting black armbands as a symbol of protest, these employees are asserting that the free electricity units granted to them are an integral component of their overall compensation package.

They argue that these units are tantamount to a portion of their salary and benefits, for which they already contribute through their payments.

The demonstrators contend that the share of complimentary electricity units they receive constitutes a mere 0.023 percent of Pakistan’s total electricity consumption.

They emphasized their refusal to entertain any possibility of these free supply units being withdrawn, regardless of the circumstances.
