RAWALPINDI: In a display of frustration, Rawalpindi residents took to the streets on Sunday, expressing their discontent with the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) for an extended failure to supply water.
Armed with banners and placards, the affected locals strategically blocked the main arteries of Adiala Road, demanding decisive action against Wasa officials for their inefficiency spanning over two years.
Residents from Defence Road, Saleha Street, Dhama Syedan, Kalyal, Munawar Colony, Ali Town, and Hill View Lane converged at Adiala Road, collectively voicing their dissatisfaction through this organised protest.
Despite sustained efforts to draw attention to their water scarcity plight, residents claim that higher authorities have been negligent in addressing the issue.
According to The News, they accuse Wasa officials of consistently dispatching hefty water bills without providing corresponding water supplies.
Vowing to persist in their protests until the removal of alleged corrupt elements within Wasa, affected residents remain resolute in their pursuit of justice.
Notably, the Punjab government reportedly allocated Rs400 million to ensure a consistent supply of clean drinking water to Adiala Road residents.
However, the funds seem to have had little impact, as residents continue to grapple with severe water shortages while simultaneously facing exorbitant bills.
Expressing their dissatisfaction, protesters highlighted the passive stance of local management, accusing them of overlooking this critical public welfare issue.
Irate demonstrators called upon Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz of Punjab to intervene urgently and prioritise the resolution of this water crisis.
Failing swift action, they issued a warning that affected areas in Rawalpindi would escalate their protests, potentially leading to the blockage of all major roads in the city.
