ISLAMABAD: With Iqbal Day just around the corner, speculation is mounting over whether there will be a public holiday on November 9.
On November 9, Pakistan marks Iqbal Day, honoring the birth anniversary of national poet Allama Iqbal and commemorating his contributions to the vision that led to the creation of Pakistan.
So far, no public holiday has been announced by the government for Iqbal Day falling on November 9.

As per the public holiday circular issued by the government for 2024, this day, however, has been marked as a public holiday
This year, November 9 falls on a Saturday, which is typically a day off for many institutions.
However, for those working on Saturdays, the announcement of a holiday will provide a break.
Iqbal Day was reinstated as a public holiday in 2023 after a period of being unofficially observed without an official public holiday designation.
Born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot, Allama Iqbal emerged as a significant figure in the subcontinent, playing a crucial role in the Pakistan movement.
As a modern Sufi poet, Iqbal inspired a revolutionary spirit among the nation through his impactful poetry. His literary works have been translated into various languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and English, establishing him as a notable philosopher on the global stage.
Tragically, Iqbal did not live to see Pakistan’s independence, passing away on April 21, 1938.
