LAHORE: The Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, announced during his visit to Lahore Zoo that winter vacations for students will be extended based on the recommendations of the Education Department. The current winter vacation period spans until the 9th of January 2024.
During his visit to Lahore Zoo, CM Punjab addressed the persistent issue of smog and fog, which caused disruptions for travelers. Naqvi expressed concern, stating that there used to be no fog in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, but now it persists in those areas as well.
He highlighted the impact on aviation, noting that due to low visibility, airports in Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Lahore often close due to fog.
In an effort to combat the visibility challenges, Naqvi mentioned plans for artificial rain if adequate clouds arrive, emphasising the current lack of sufficient cloud cover.
The entire Punjab region is currently engulfed in fog, and Naqvi expressed hope for rain soon, seeking divine intervention with a prayer to Allah Almighty.
Turning his attention to various ongoing projects, CM Naqvi provided updates. He expressed expectations for the Gujranwala Motorway project and the Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi project to be completed by January 31st.
Naqvi underscored his commitment to project oversight, stating that feedback is collected from various departments and continuous monitoring is undertaken by ministers, officers, and officials.
In instances where there is a risk of project delays, Naqvi assured swift action, with the team responding immediately. The Communication and Works (C&W) department is actively engaged in multiple projects.
Addressing concerns about ongoing crackdowns, including those on encroachments, CM Naqvi acknowledged the challenge of people returning to their malpractices shortly after being caught in crackdowns.
Despite the ongoing efforts, there is a need for sustained vigilance to curb such repeat occurrences.
Earlier, a multitude of false extensions for winter holidays circulated on social media platforms, causing confusion among students and parents who mistook them for official holiday notification from the Punjab government.
