Youm-e-Takbeer: Will there be a public holiday on Wednesday?

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will observe Youm-e-Takbeer on Wednesday, May 28, to commemorate the country’s landmark nuclear tests conducted in 1998 at Chagai, Balochistan.
The federal government has officially declared May 28 a public holiday in honour of Youm-e-Takbeer. A notification confirming the holiday was issued by the Establishment Division.
The Sindh government had already made the announcement a day earlier, stating that all provincial offices, local councils, and government departments would remain closed on May 28.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange has also announced a holiday on the same day. This was confirmed in an official notice released by the Chief Market Operations Officer.

All banks across the country will remain closed as well, marking the day of national significance.
In Punjab, schools will begin their summer vacations from May 28, as stated in the official notification issued by the provincial education authorities.
Youm-e-Takbeer marks the day when Pakistan became the first Muslim-majority country and the seventh nation globally to acquire nuclear capability. The tests were carried out in response to India’s nuclear tests, solidifying Pakistan’s position as a nuclear power on the world stage.
