Yousaf Raza Gilani acquitted in TDAP corruption case

KARACHI: Federal anti-corruption court Karachi has acquitted former prime minister and Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani in a corruption case related to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP)
In 2018, federal anti-corruption court had indicted former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and 25 others in a corruption case pertaining to the TDAP.
Ex-PM Gilani and some former and serving senior TDAP officials, along with a few others, were booked for their alleged involvement in the approval and disbursement of fraudulent trade subsidies worth billions of rupees to several fake companies through fictitious claims and backdated cheques during the PPP government’s tenure.

The Federal Investigation Agency had chargesheeted Mr Gilani in around 25 out of over 70 cases pertaining to the trade subsidy scam.
Gilani had pleaded not guilty in all the charges against him.
Today, the anti-corruption court accepted acquittal plea of Yousaf Raza Gilani in the three cases and acquitted him.
Talking to media after the hearing Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the one who had become a witness against him has now become an accused. The approver-turned-accused has now fled the country,
“I have been in the National Assembly and Senate for several years and have always fulfilled my responsibilities as according to the law,” he stated.
