President Asif Ali Zardari called on Pakistanis to 'pledge' their commitment to national development and prosperity on Independence Day.

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari called on Pakistanis to ‘pledge’ their commitment to national development and prosperity on Independence Day.

In his message, Zardari congratulated the nation and talked about August 14 as a day for celebration and the historic struggle for self-determination by Indian Muslims.

Zardari praised the “peaceful” and “democratic” establishment of Pakistan. He honoured the sacrifices of Pakistan Movement leaders and activists. He called for national unity, integrity, and economic stability, urging the use of the country’s resources for public welfare.

The president stressed the importance of upholding the rule of law, stabilising democratic institutions, and meeting the nation’s expectations.

He called for a focus on improving services, supporting youth and women, and creating a favourable business environment.

Zardari also reiterated support for Kashmiris and Palestinians, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to their right to self-determination.
