ATC issues arrest warrants for PTI members, seeks reports on previous warrants

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad heard six different cases filed against members and leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for violent protests and vandalism.

Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra of the ATC presided over the cases registered under anti-terrorism provisions at different police stations for various incidents. One of these cases has been registered in CTD police station, one in Golra police station, two in Ramna police station, one in Sangjani police station and one in Bhara Kahu police station.

The court also sought report from Adiala Jail Superintendent regarding the non-attendance of former PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Aamir Mehmood Kayani and other accused persons were present in today’s hearing. The court issued arrest warrants for the accused who were absent in today’s hearings on cases registered at Sangjani police station. These include Ali Nawaz Awan and Amir Mughal among others.

A report on the compliance of previously issued arrest warrants was also sought for the cases registered in Ramna police station, which include warrants issued against Hamad Azhar, Murad Saeed, Farrukh Habib, Wasiq Qayyum and others.

The hearing on cases registered in counter-terrorism department (CTD) Police Station, Sangjani Police Station, and Ramna Police Station was adjourned till December 2. The hearing of the cases registered in Golra and Bara Kahu police stations was adjourned till December 9.

On behalf of the accused, Advocate Sardar Mohammad Masroof, Murtaza Turi and Zahid Bashir Dar appeared in the court.
