Faisal Vawda urges Imran to move beyond ‘Maula Jutt’ politics

KARACHI: Former federal minister Faisal Vawda has called upon ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan to steer clear of the entrenched political tactics reminiscent of ‘Maula Jutt’.

Speaking in Karachi on Saturday, Vawda expressed frustration at Khan’s reluctance to engage with other political factions, urging him to embrace a more democratic approach for the beleaguered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Vawda, a former PTI member, highlighted his previous attempts to persuade Khan to adopt a different strategy but claimed they fell on deaf ears. He vehemently dismissed the notion that individuals involved in the violence on May 9 would evade repercussions following the February 8 elections.

Drawing a comparison between Maryam Nawaz and former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Vawda criticised the latter, dubbing the current Punjab Chief Minister as “Buzdar 2.0”.

Reflecting on his expulsion from the party, Vawda asserted that he was ousted for speaking the truth when PTI’s popularity was at its zenith.

Turning his attention to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Vawda predicted challenges for Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur post-Ramadan.

Furthermore, Vawda announced his intention to contest Senate elections, acknowledging that victory or defeat ultimately lies in the hands of Allah. He bemoaned the prevalence of horse-trading in Pakistani politics, expressing uncertainty about its recurrence in the upcoming elections.

Responding to queries, Vawda affirmed his willingness to engage with President Asif Ali Zardari multiple times. He clarified his decision not to participate in the elections due to the government’s brief tenure, speculating that the coalition administration might endure for two to 2.5 years.
