SIC chief responds to criticism by PTI’s Marwat

Marwat on alliance

ISLAMABAD: Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chief Sahibzada Hamid Raza, fired back at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) leaders on Friday, cautioning them against airing internal party grievances publicly.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) posted on Friday evening, Raza reiterated loyalty to PTI’s incarcerated founder Imran Khan, and said that he has a lot to reveal as well. However, he cautioned against disclosing potentially damaging information despite feeling provoked by recent remarks.

Raza’s rebuke came in response to PTI’s Sher Afzal Marwat’s assertion that forming an alliance with the SIC was a strategic blunder, allegedly resulting in the loss of 80 parliamentary seats due to flawed decisions.

Expressing disdain for Marwat’s comments, Raza urged PTI to resolve internal matters privately, stressing that the decision to align with the SIC was sanctioned by Imran Khan himself. “I made no requests,” Raza declared in the statement he posted on X.

The SIC chief hinted at possessing sensitive information, from electoral strategies to reserved seats, but opted against divulging details publicly, citing his unwavering commitment to Imran Khan and the PTI’s welfare.

Meanwhile, internal discord within PTI regarding the alliance surfaced further, with senior leader Senator Barrister Ali Zafar admitting to missteps in decision-making processes. Zafar disclosed on a talk show with a private news channel that initial plans to merge with Majlis Wahdat ul Muslimeen (MWM) for reserved seats were abruptly altered in favour of the SIC.

Zafar detailed how the decision to join MWM was overturned following purported meetings between certain individuals and Imran Khan at Adiala jail. Despite expressing incredulity at the sudden shift, Zafar maintained that Khan denied any alteration in plans.

Acknowledging Marwat’s comment on alliance with SIC, Zafar attributed the differences in opinion to communication lapses within PTI’s leadership circles. He elucidated on the sequence of decisions regarding potential alliances, highlighting discrepancies in the process.

Zafar also noted the legal complexities surrounding SIC’s entitlement to reserved seats, referencing ongoing disputes with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The matter, he affirmed, awaits resolution by the Supreme Court.
