LAHORE: The hearing of General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is scheduled to be heard today. According to sources, the former premier is likely to be indicted in today’s proceedings.
Judge Amjad Ali Shah of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) will hold the hearing on the incidents of May 9, 2023. Strict security arrangements have been made by the police for the hearing, sources said.
On the previous hearing, held on November 1, copies of the challan were distributed to all the accused. However, one of the accused, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, could not receive the copies as he is currently incarcerated in Lahore. Copies of the challan will likely be provided to his lawyers today.
The court has summoned all the 125 accused today for indictment. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has also been ordered to appear in person. The ATC has that announced arrest warrants will be issued for the accused parties who fail to appear today.
A total of 27 serious charges have been imposed on Imran Khan and others. According to the case challan, the accused attacked the GHQ, broke the gate, resisted military personnel, and vandalised sensitive military property. The attack involved the use of sticks, stones, and a petrol bomb, leading to fires and the destruction of property.
The challan further alleges that the windows of the GHQ building were smashed, the reputation of the Pakistan Army was besmirched, and the military personnel were attacked. Slogans were raised against the country and its armed forces, and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) building was also targeted.
The demonstration is described as part of an organised criminal conspiracy.
