Intra-party election case: PTI submits written reply; seeks time for arguments

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) heard Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party case. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the compalinant Akbar S Babar, and others appear before the ECP.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja gave copies of the documents submitted by the petitioners to PTI representatives.

Prior to the hearing, the ECP had issued notices to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and party leader Raoof Hassan. Notices were also issued to Akbar S Babar and others petitioners as well. At the last hearing, PTI had sought time to submit written reply.
The ECP adjourned the hearing until March 3.
PTI CONSIDERING NAMES FOR NEW CEC
Speaking to media, after the hearing, Barrister Gohar said, “We have submitted the reply. We should be given time for arguments.” He said that the party had conducted the intra-party elections on March 3. “We had conducted the most transparent elections among all political parties,” he said, adding, “We have already submitted the answers to the seven questions of the ECP.”
Barrister Gohar said that written responses have been submitted to the petitions of five petitioners.
The PTI chairman said that during the raid on PTI’s head office, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had seized all the documents and records. “We have requested the ECP to recover our records before the arguments,” he said, adding, “Four out of the five petitioners had not participated in any way in the intra-party elections.”

Barrister Gohar said that the fifth petitioner, “who is an associate of Akbar S Babar has been expelled from the party long ago.” He added that the CEC and two other members of the ECP have completed their constitutional term. “PTI is considering different names for the Chief Election Commissioner and two members,” he said.
