JI chief criticises Pakistan’s elites amidst electricity, inflation crisis

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, has delivered a scathing critique of Pakistan’s ruling class, accusing them of burdening the nation with an escalating electricity crisis and soaring inflation.

Speaking at a gathering, Hafiz Naeem highlighted the dominance of capitalists and landlords within the country’s leadership, attributing the ongoing economic woes to their policies.

“The rulers only offer crises to the people,” Rehman stated, condemning the government’s handling of essential utilities. “One day, they increase the prices of gas, the next, it’s electricity. They claim their hands are tied due to agreements with the IMF, but the people suffer as a result.”

The JI chief further criticised the government’s inconsistent approach to managing utility costs, accusing them of offering temporary relief as a mere token gesture. “They raise the prices of electricity, leaving the public in despair. Then, they turn around and announce a small reduction—making electricity Rs 14 cheaper for just two months—as if it’s a gift.”
