ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leader Hafiz Hamdullah has said that the incarcerated former chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is involved in behind-the-scenes negotiations. Hafiz Hamdullah said that Imran Khan does not want to leave the country.
The JUI leader said in an interview, “I think there have been repeated contacts with Imran Khan over this issue but the matter is stuck on one point”. He said that there is a demand from Imran Khan to apologise to the nation for the events of May 9, to which he is adamant that he was not responsible for all that unfolded on that fateful day.

Hafiz Hamdullah also said, “According to the information I have, Imran Khan is not ready to go out [of the country]. He is demanding new elections.”
The JUI leader said that the ruling parties, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) did in the last elections. He further said that the parliament makes new legislations in 20 minutes. “On whose authority [is that being done]? I do not recognise their mandate. The government, in truth [is being run by] someone else,” Hafiz Hamdullah said.
