ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has once again summoned the Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman at 11:30 am on Friday (tomorrow) at its Rawalpindi headquarters in a scandal involving £190 million, earlier known as the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The NAB Rawalpindi has issued instructions to the PTI chairman to bring along documents related to Al-Qadir Trust. The anti-graft body has issued summons in this regard.

Al-Qadir Trust case

The Al-Qadir Trust case is an alleged corruption scandal involving the PTI chairman, his wife Bushra Bibi and their close aides Zulfiqar Bukhari and Babar Awan.

The case relates to the Al-Qadir University project, which was initiated by the former premier in 2019 to provide quality education in Sohawa tehsil of Punjab’s Jhelum district.

The NAB has alleged that the PTI chief and his associates received billions of rupees from a real estate tycoon in exchange for legalising a laundered amount of Rs50 billion ($300 million) that was sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the Pakistani government in 2019.

The anti-graft body has also accused the PTI chairman and his wife of obtaining over 458 acres of land at Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the university project.

The NAB claims that the deal caused a loss of more than $239 million to the national exchequer. The PTI chief has denied the charges as politically motivated and has challenged the NAB’s jurisdiction in the case.
