This was announced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Tuesday. The decision was made by PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, confirming Marwat’s selection during a press conference held after a meeting at Adiala Jail.

This announcement comes following a period of speculation and discussion within the party and Marwat coming at odds with PTI’s Shibli Faraz for suggesting that Imran Khan has chosen Hamid Raza from the PTI-allied Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) for this post.

Marwat had made public statements asserting that he is the chosen candidate by the former PTI chairman, and that speculations by Shibli Faraz and media were baseless. The issue garnered further controversy based on the fact that Imran Khan had removed Marwat from focal persons team earlier in April.

Last week, PTI Secretary General and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan advocated for Marwat’s appointment. However, media reports mentioned other potential candidates as well, including PTI’s Hamid Khan and SIC’s Hamid Raza.
