PPP’s Shehla Raza to head Pakistan Hockey Federation

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples’ Party’s (PPP) leader Shehla Raza has made history by becoming the first woman to be elected as the President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).

Her appointment was made official during a gathering of PHF Congress members held in Karachi on Tuesday. Notably, representatives from various affiliated departments of the PHF were also present at the meeting.

The decision to elect Shehla Raza was met with unanimous support from the Congress members, who endorsed her leadership for the remainder of the term. Additionally, Shuja Iqbal Raja was also unanimously chosen as the Finance Secretary by the Congress.

The meeting, convened by PHF Secretary Haider Hussain, saw the participation of 54 Congress members. During the session, the scrutiny of hockey clubs and the electoral process of the PHF were discussed and approved in accordance with the recommendations of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Furthermore, a five-member committee was established to oversee the scrutiny of hockey clubs.

In her address, Shehla Raza expressed her gratitude to the PHF members and pledged to address the challenges faced by hockey in Pakistan. She also announced the appointment of Olympian Samiullah Khan as an advisor to the President of PHF.

It’s worth noting that another faction of the hockey federation, led by Tariq Bugti, also operates within the PHF. They have a meeting scheduled to take place in Islamabad as well.
