PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: A crucial meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders is set to take place today at 3 PM at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, under the chairmanship of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

The meeting aims to finalise the party’s strategy for the planned protest on October 15 AT D-Chowk Islamabad. PTI’s national and provincial assembly members and key party officials will participate in the meeting, sources said.

The attendees will review preparations and assign specific tasks to ensure a strong turnout at the upcoming protest. The gathering will focus on crafting a joint approach to mobilise supporters and ensure the demonstration’s success.

However, the protest’s timing has sparked controversy, as it coincides with the high-profile Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad, scheduled for October 15-16.

In light of this, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has urged PTI to reconsider the rally in the “larger national interest”. Dar highlighted the significance of the SCO meeting where crucial issues will be discussed under the regional framework.

PTI leaders, meanwhile, have hinted that they are willing to postpone the protest if they are granted permission to meet their incarcerated party leader and former prime minister, Imran Khan, who is currently held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Sheikh Waqas Akram, a senior PTI figure, also reiterated the party’s readiness to withdraw its protest call if the government facilitates this meeting.
