ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat has been slapped with a show cause notice by the party for issuing irresponsible statements.
Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan on Saturday issued a show-cause notice directing Marwat to submit his reply within three days, Omar told him that the statements he had issued caused damage to the party’s image.
The show cause notice said that the politician has damaged relations with fellow party members and stakeholders through his actions and words.
The party’s central secretariat has summoned Marwat to explain himself in writing within three days of the show-cause notice, explaining why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
“If your reply is unsatisfactory or you do not respond, further action will be taken as per party policy and rules,” said the show-cause notice against the PTI leader.
Marwat, who remains in the limelight due to his blunt and controversial remarks, has been at loggerheads with several party leaders including Taimur Khan Jhagra, Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz.
While talking to the media outside the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Omar Ayub confirmed the development, adding that the former premier had also directed that a show-cause notice be issued to him for making controversial statements.
Marwat slams fellow party leaders
He said that the statements made by the PTI leader had damaged the party’s relations with Saudi Arabia. “Imran has told me that he has personal relations with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman,” he told reporters.
Omar said Marwat had been warned multiple times against violating the party policy, but in vain.
It is no secret that the statements made by the PTI leader from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have caused embarrassment to the party on several occasions.
And that was what prompted the former prime minister and the PTI founder Imran Khan to order the removal of Marwat from the party’s core and political committees two days ago.
Earlier, PTI also nominated Sheikh Waqas Akram in place of Marwat for the post of National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.
